What We’re Seeing • What Parents Should Know • Your Questions Answered
Free and open to Truckee/Tahoe families | Spanish interpretation available
Talking about teen substance use can feel uncomfortable. An open conversation can help families build understanding, prevent harm, and find support.
Join local school and health professionals for a practical, judgment-free conversation about what teens are facing and how parents and caregivers can respond. Whether you’re thinking ahead, navigating questions, or concerned about your child, you are welcome.
We’ll discuss:
Local trends involving alcohol, cannabis, nicotine/vaping, opioids, and other substances
Parties, sleepovers, driving, and other situations families are navigating
Monitoring and reducing access at home
Setting boundaries while keeping communication open
Warning signs and when to seek additional support
Local prevention, treatment, and recovery resources
Meet the panel:
Leila Jirari, PA-C, MPH, MEd — Tahoe Forest Health System, Addiction Medicine
Michael Bratt — School Resource Officer, Truckee Police Department
Alejo Padilla, M.Ed. — Truckee High School Assistant Principal
Shannon Decker, M.Ed. — TTUSD Substance Use Navigator and Executive Director of The Speedy Foundation
Community partners will also be available to connect families with resources and support.
Bring your questions—and invite another parent or caregiver to join you. Showing up together helps make these conversations easier to start and continue at home.
This program will be recorded by The Speedy Foundation. Portions of the conversation may be used to create educational resources for parents and the community.
