Announces increased fundraising goal to expand suicide awareness efforts

Purpose

Each year, Hike for Hope honors loved ones lost to suicide, supports individuals who may be struggling, and reinforces the community’s commitment to suicide prevention and mental wellness. In mountain communities, where suicide rates remain disproportionately high, the event highlights the importance of connection, compassion, and collective action, while raising funds for local prevention efforts.

Local impact

Funds raised through the Hike directly support The Speedy Foundation’s efforts in suicide prevention, mental health education, outreach, and community awareness in Tahoe Truckee. This year, the Hike for Hope Committee has set an ambitious goal of $55K to sustain the Suicide Prevention Coalition—the region’s only organization solely dedicated to preventing suicide—as well as Hope Squad peer-support programs in local schools and stigma-reduction initiatives.

“This is my third year hiking and my second year on the planning committee. I am so grateful for this wonderful mountain community and am excited to be involved with such a meaningful cause. As someone who has struggled with mental health throughout my life, I believe wholeheartedly in the Hope Squad cause,” said Tori Marsh. “It is inspiring to see our young people take responsibility with intentional action. It is a privilege to hike alongside such remarkable advocates. I hike to lighten the load for the next generation.”
