Suicide Postvention

Death by suicide is always an extremely traumatic loss. It is a crisis. It has severe emotional and psychological effects. It is accompanied by complicated and prolonged bereavement. The response after a death by suicide might feel almost impossible, but there is path forward. This training was created to help to understand suicide as well as the public health concerns that surround this tragic death of despair.

Postvention is the provision of crisis intervention, support, and assistance for two groups of people. For those who have lost a loved one to suicide and those who have experienced their own suicide attempt.

Delivery & Audience: Training is designed for individuals impacted by suicide and are presented in-person or virtually.

Training Time: 60-90 minutes

Goals:

  1. Support the survivor bereavement experience

  2. Support the healing/recovery process after an attempt

  3. Encourage safe and effective public messaging and media reporting of suicide

  4. Prevent further suicides and provide hope for the future
