Red Flag Recognition
About Red Flag Recognition Training
This training, based on the "if you see something, say something" model, is brought to you by the QPR Institute, is the first-of-its-kind web-based training program to prepare ordinary citizens to recognize and respond to red flag warning signs of a possible school shooter. The interactive “maze” training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. A certificate is available upon completion for a small fee.
By taking this training, you can become some of the change that you have been waiting for. You can learn to identify developing violence toward self or others, and in the case of most school shootings, become part of the solution to the early risk identification and intervention necessary to avert another tragic loss of life.
We hope this learning experience will help you to become a better observer of possible warning signs of developing violent behavior toward self or others, or someone who may become a school shooter. Please remember, the vast majority of people considering suicide will never be violent to anyone but themselves. So let’s be kind to one another and reach out to others who may be experiencing suicidal despair. For a more detailed study of the relationship of suicide to violence toward others, we recommend the book “The Perversion of Virtue,” by Doctor Thomas Joiner.
You may retake the learning maze as many times as you like & forward the training link to as many others as you can. Remember, we are all on duty.
The Importance of Recognizing Red Flags People contemplating violence towards themselves or others often say or do things that signal their intent. These behaviors are red flags or warning signs. When others emit warning signs or red flags - we need to trust our gut fear that something is very wrong and then take quick, bold action to confirm or disconfirm our fear. If almost all mass murderers die by suicide, and suicide is preventable, then if we can prevent some suicides, we can prevent some homicides and some mass shootings.
